RESEARCH: TRAILER ELEMENTS
I have joined the Film Distribution course offered by FutureLearn, which is a 4 week programme created by the Film Distributors Association (FDA).
(CCR1 and )
In the Future Learn website, it also mention about the important elements and the trailer must have:
- The title of the film - when does it appear? Straight away? At the end?
- Credits - who is credited? All/some of the stars? the Director?
- Are there references to other films in the trailer? What are they and why are they there?
- How can you tell the genre of the film? What clues are you given ?
It also have a GALLERY OF FILM TRAILERS, so I am able tp pick a trailer and analyse it in terms of all the conventions.
I picked Brightburn trailer to analyse, with the help of documents provided by the FutureLearn

PLANNING: ADVANCED PRODUCTION INITIAL DEVELOPMENT
We have decided that our genre for the trailer is going to be a thriller horror. However, I recognised that the horror elements is more about scaring the audience with the impact of visual and sound.
We have all decided to set our trailer genre to be a thriller, at the same time should not be containing any violent element. We consider that adding violent elements to our trailer would not have a grater impact, therefore we have settled the final genre as fantasy thriller.
There are films that identified themselves as a thriller genre, I distinguished that there are noticeable difference between them. Like for 'Inception' and 'Joker', I found the trailer of 'Joker' is more interesting and it would engage me to watch it. I spot out that probably the film itself still do contains different kinds of genre, 'Inception' is a action, adventure and sci-fi film, where at the same time, it is also identify as a thriller genre.

I found it useful to save everything that I found useful on Scoop.it, which is a platform that allows me to create boards of curated content based on topics I have chosen. Scoop.it also enables me to share my thoughts as insights in the comment box. Scoop.it is interactive and offers links that maybe relevant to my research.
