PLANNING: ADVANCED PRODUCTION INITIAL DEVELOPMENT

We have decided that our genre for the trailer is going to be a thriller horror. However, I recognised that the horror elements is more about scaring the audience with the impact of visual and sound.

There are films that identified themselves as a thriller genre, I distinguished that there are noticeable difference between them. Like for 'Inception' and 'Joker', I found the trailer of 'Joker' is more interesting and it would engage me to watch it. I spot out that probably the film itself still do contains different kinds of genre, 'Inception' is a action, adventure and sci-fi film, where at the same time, it is also identify as a thriller genre.

We have all decided to set our trailer genre to be a thriller, at the same time should not be containing any violent element. We consider that adding violent elements to our trailer would not have a grater impact, therefore we have settled the final genre as fantasy thriller.

I have research film trailers as part of a promotion package. I found it useful to save everything that I found useful on Scoop.it, which is a platform that allows me to create boards of curated content based on topics I have chosen. Scoop.it also enables me to share my thoughts as insights in the comment box. Scoop.it is interactive and offers links that maybe relevant to my research.

RESEARCH: HOW IS THE FILM TO BE MARKETED & PROMOTED?

RESEARCH: WHY IS THE TRAILER MADE?

Film trailer is a kind of makreting campaign for a film, where the marketing campaign is designed to raise audience awareness and interest in the film.

A film trailer is typically made for the audience to know the clues about the content of the film and the genre of the film. A film trailer would directly give clues and tell the audience about the keywords of the film, as compared to other marketing campaigns like film poster and interview of the actors. This is because a film trailer is giving sight and sound impact to the audience, so therefore the audience is more likely to understand what the film will be like.
